The Last Drum Circle of 2012

Travel

Drumming is more than just noise. It’s depth of vibration and the individual tonal notes of several different drums, which combine together to make it a very unique and sometimes spiritual activity. The drums that sound every full moon at River School are no exception.
It was a beautiful night in a fierce crazy snowstorm kind of way. The snow wasn’t deep enough for me to kick it into 4-wheel drive, however caution was necessary. Upon arrival the community center seemed calm until I opened the door to a herd of elephants!! Oh, that’s only one hipster maniac going to town on a one man drum solo. I suppose my nerves were still a bit wound up from the drive over on icy and snowy roads. After I was settled and some of the others showed up I slowly felt my nerves start to relax. Pretty soon the sound didn’t seem quite so loud and obnoxious. Instead it began to soothe me and wrap me in its energy and embrace.
A little while longer and I felt the whole picture of fun and camaraderie come together. I drummed and visited with the good loving people who fought their way through that snowstorm to be there. And when it was all over and we each took to the icy roads, I felt that peace come over me knowing that I made a positive vibration.
